Northwestern United States is home to forests of tall sturdy trees, mountains, round and jagged, bodies of water full of life and St. Placid Priory, home to our Sisters. We completed the Visitation process with the Sisters in early September. The visitators were Sister Ramona Varela, BSPA, from Tucson and Sister Linda Soler, OSB, St. Paul’s Monastery and President of the Federation, Sister Kerry O’Reilly.
After climbing a bit of Mount Rainier, which has only a smattering of snow cover, and gazing at the Cascade Range of mountains and eating fresh berry pie, the visitators spent good time with the community, listening and learning about this community’s monastic life. New Office books for prayer, Priory Spirituality Center busy with guests, and an atmosphere of quiet and peace offered an authentic insight into this monastery. Each of the 12 members of the monastery finds herself in two or three positions in the active life of prayer and ministry they live each day.
Historically, 35 Sisters left St. Benedict’s Monastery in Minnesota and founded St. Placid Monastery. Having lost two of the founders in 2016, Sister Damaris Zander finds herself as the sole living foundress from the original group.
It was a pleasure to be with this community. It is far west and I encourage you to stop if you are out that way and enjoy the Sisters and the beauty.

Noroeste de Estados Unidos es el hogar de bosques de árboles altos y robustos, montañas, redondas y irregulares, cuerpos de agua llenos de vida y el Priorato de San Placid, el hogar de nuestras hermanas.
